Fished this swim 8th Sept 2007 and had most of my fish of the sluice, But not at night, Always rested it. You need to be on your rods at all times as they will be in the snags before you know it. Open water in front has a few bumps and lumps if you feel about, And with the little & often aproach does throw out a few.
Did`n t have nothing until early hours Tuesday morning, as this swim does sometimes take a while to switch on.
Had 24 fish for the week, 8 doubles, 14-20`s, a 38.06lb mirror and 51.12lb mirror.
Nice swim & would fish it again.

fished it 26th may 34 fish never fished it hard due to my health but helped with resting my swim :D 80% of fish came from open water and rest from snags if baited heavy got smaller fish and if used leads under 4oz got liners and drop backs due to carps mouths being hard due to the hard bottom ie gravel , lad in middles was casting over me as i was catching which slowed my runs down as fish were pressured by line in water  but thats fishing for ya :( ... 12-15ft average but fount 11 ft heading towards beach
10x doubles
13x 20lbs
5 x 30lbs
5 x 40lbs
1 x 50lbs

smog, point dont interfere with it.................that tree line on the left is split fairly as is open water......................only problem is if you start catching from open water i imagine point and middles will slowly move round

the right margin looks lovely and rightly so you cant get targeted by the other swims apart from the baliffs helper also think you need a wind blowing in towards you for it to fish well

One fish from the margins (sluice gate) all my fosh came from open water towards the point and to the dead tree. All on double 16mm hook baits apart from two which were on a 6 foot zig with fruit frenzy pop ups :P

There were about 20 very big fish in the next opening up from the sluice gate, all over 40 pounds I would say :smartass: Threw a few baits in and they starting competing for them! Edged them out into the tree line and the water was black with big carp. Cast to the spot and locked up, 2 hours later a 20 pound common    LOL. One of if not the best swims on the complex for me :thumbsup_anim:

Margins or open water :D

Personally prefer the right hand margin in this swim, cos anyone fishin the point seems to hem you in. At least fishin the margins no-one can get close to your spots :thumbsdown_anim:

If Point empty, then increase ya options & get em out mid water, one rod certainly aiming out towards the mid channel into the back bay ;)

Chrissy Swaden maintains he had all of his bites from fishin towards the dead tree on Right hand bank.

Everytime I cast over to the dead tree had the helper threatening to take me down the train station. :D Only picked his lines up the 10 times!
Could`nt work it out

Here are the comments from the old website.

9. Next to Coypu

Comment: Had a good result on the first trip of the year, drew #5 on the coach and ended up in 'Next to Coypu' on the old. Started off really slow, I didn't have a bite for nearly 42 hours but ended up with 38 fish. I had a rod on each of the sluices and 1 on gravel bar towards the point. I had to keep quite a lot of bait going in to maintain bites though. Had 3 x 40's, 4 x 30's, 26 x 20's & a few pasties! No bream thankfully!! And I lost a large cat (Went from coypu corner to Jurassic in about 2.2 seconds!!)

Comment: I fished complex 29/4/05 guy who had Next to, had over 20 fish 5 40s and a 60 plus Cat fishing to sluice gates and one on gravel as you said. He let his mate fish in Coypu last couple of days and they both caught using 2 rods each I think

Comment: I know the feeling!! I had the whole of the old lake in my swim trying to catch a fish!!

Comment: Think this would be my 1st choice of swim on the Old Lake.

Comment: The sluice gates are along the left hand margin. There’s plenty of room and to be honest the Point shouldn't really interfere with that swim.

Comment: Have to disagree but would be no.2 for me, there is a little bay opposite that would be much preferred. I think when Guy fished it he was fishing towards the point and not the tree line. It is a long way across to the point and you also have along the bank towards the bailiff’s hut.

Comment: There is a big tree on the margin that everyone agrees is the dividing point, best swim on the old IMHO

Comment: I haven’t been yet as you know, but this peg will probably be in my top 2 choices when I go m8. It produces some cracking fish. This is where Chrissy Swaden fished in the Gauntlet Challenge.

Comment: my mate fished it last time we was out there , and he had about 30 fish and lost 15 , the biggest he had was just over 40 . But did lost some better fish in the snags.
There is a bar start in front of you I think about 40 - 50 yards, which my mate had a lovely long 39lb common off and to think of it a few other 30's

Comment: No doubt about it ladies this is a great swim. I fished it last August and surprisingly I had very few takes of the sluice area most of my takes coming from two open water spots.

Mind you never really started catching until Tuesday then it started to happen. The Old had been really hammered the week before and it was slow going all round for the first 3/4 days.

I did not want to go home on the Saturday as I had takes all through the night (2 at once).
Tob took great pleasure in letting me know the geezer that moved in behind me gave them a pasting after I left.

Still, ended up with 20 odd fish so couldn't grumble (and a stinking horrible catfish)

Comment: the swims not as big as it looks, it’s only a flick to the trees, and I cant believe its actually two swims!

Comment: great swim, I have fished it twice. Either the tree line or open water will normally produce. Also, the right hand side close to where the helpers swim is, is very overlooked, Chrissy Swaden had a lot of his fish from this spot.

Comment: Fished here 17 - 24 September 2005.
Out No 2 in draw, just wanted to fish Old Lake and have bit of a social with m8 who fished in Shallows (Joss/Guy, lad who had the 56 from the shallows on last trip).

Searched around mid water, could only find light gravel, nothing to mention.
Had all my fish off sluices with exception of 1 which came from small stalking hole between coypu and helpers swim.
