reason for the bloom is simple enough colin

depending on the eco system the lakes over the winter harbor a lot of dead vegitation leaves ect a few uneaten boilies but its not until the water warms up that that it all starts to decay properly

as you know it produces nitrates and phosphates which creates food to fuel the algae bloom which is also why the weed in the edges does so well (plenty of natural food ) all this happens in most lakes and ponds but rarely goes noticed
because fish sort of absorb the surrounding water through there skin gills ect this will affect
the way they feed bit like living in the country and then living in the city for a week

lots to be taken onto consideration depth of lake surrounding size of lake to surrounding vegitation ect
hth

Cheers Bert knew there was a simple answer to it.

I know over here we would use "barley straw" bales in the lake to soak it up.

I think I heard of this on Les before, did it effect all 3 lakes?Where other lakes in the area effected.
Nature is funny as all Les lakes are on the same water table yet they can all fish different.
We really do know very little about nature, hope its not every year as we are out 15/5/2010(same week as bloom this year).
