Agree to a point, the close season is for a reason which escapes me but it's something to do with salmon/trout and is nothing to do with normal fishing and is completely out of date..
If it was me i would do the same thing but four weeks, to close a lake in March straight after a winter break i think is totally overkill. I have always said that in today's modern weather and fishing i think closing for June is about right.
Plus they are just waking up from their slumber and looking for a good feed up and then denied anglers bait if like many your not allowed on the venue.End of the day if most people have pulled off by Dec and don't return till march they are getting three months break,to then shut it for another three months means they are more or less unfished for half a year.

I took this from the Carthagena web site,i think this should happen on all water as the fish spawn at different times on all lakes.Dont know about the 6 weeks bit but its his water so he should know best.
The season will finish as normal on the 14th March 2009 and start again the next day on the 15th. The lake will stay open all year until the first signs of spawning, and from that first day we will close the syndicate lake for six weeks. In this period that we are closed, the fish will be fed a very good highly nutritious carp pellet. This will soon get them back in condition, and set them up for the rest of the year, I think you will agree this is the only way to protect our stock of old English carp.
