Hey Pete,

thanks for this nice write up. It was a pleasure to have you both over here for a week. Some good angling, and cracking memories. I've definitely learnt not to include the wine tasting evening at the property again, unless I make clear there are no rods to be cast on the following night!

Good angling, looking forward to having you back for some proper hardcore stuff, hopefully the Rhône if the conditions are right.

I enclose the pic of the 53lb caught from "Sarah's swim" by the 13 year old Yorkshire lad who came over with his dad. There are definitely not many mirrors in that big water, but boy do they count!

kind regards,

Stef

Nice on Stef
Fantastic week, can't wait to get back for some more superb fishing............................ & wine tasting.
Cracking mirror caught by the young lad...............he must have been pleased as punch.

Got back from the Alpine angling jaunt early last Sunday morning but then took Poshbird(the wife) away on Tuesday for her 50th birthday
present........................ went down to Cornwall to the Eden Project, only just got back hence the lack of time to tell the story of the weeks fishing. The trip was a resounding success I caught a total of 51 carp, all commons, scale perfect, absolutely stunning & never been caught before.............loads of doubles..........about 10 20s & 3 x30s biggest 38lb. . Poshbird caught a 20.

http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq51/bigpete014/AlpineAngling002.jpg

The size of fish didn't matter in the slightest as they were all stunners perfectly proportioned & not a bloated belly amongst them.
The runs were all screamers & it wasn't until the fish were in the net I had any idea of size. The fight from em was something I had never experienced before & many a time I thought I had hooked a monster only to find it was a low double. I also lost quite a few due to hook pulls & snags but my excuse for that is the 4 nights without sleep due to the amount of fish caught during the hours of darkness. I can't wait to go back for some more.

The Fella who runs Alpine Angling (Stefan Hanff) is a Diamond & is always about to assist with everything from releasing snagged fish to going out in the boat to help bait up. He's a Fox consultant & PAA coach & has a real passion for what he is offering his clients he does a bit of bankside tuition every day(if you need it) & helped me improve my casting among other things.
We even managed to fit in an evening trip to a local vineyard for a wine tasting session, had Pukka food all week & enjoyed too many beers.........................Sorted.

. We were met at Marseille Airport by Stefan & after a drive of about 30 minutes found ourselves at a lake nr the village of Istris. We were there 8 nights & had the use of a Gite for 5 of em............... the Gite was situated only 75 yds from the waters edge so Posh spent some days with Big Pete fishing. It cost the 2 of us £730 for the fishing, Gite & all bait & tackle. & £60 for Food as we were self catering whilst in the Gite.

.

http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq51/bigpete014/DSCF0673.jpg

Ryan Air flights from Stansted to Marseille were £180,the flight tickets would have been a lot cheaper if we hadn't booked em so long in advance.
Under £1000 for the 2 of us ............................ I think that compares very favourably with other Frernch carp trips, & we didn’t have the drive to Dover, humping tackle & tons of bait.I only fished the 1 venue (massive saline lake) cos we had the Gite but normally he does 2 or 3 different venues during the week ranging from small lakes to big rivers It's wild non-commercial fishing on a variety
of waters & up to now everyone who's been has caught 20 fish minimum. Great holiday, Fantastic host who has an English sense of humour & works non-stop to ensure you are on the fish, stunning scenery & psycho carp that refuse to get in the landing net What more could a man want ? I have 2 trips booked for LQ next year but will deffo go back for another Alpine Angling trip, hopefully soon(maybe August)---------- if not 2011 for sure.
