to be fair though neo...i does depend on the fishery its self....heavily stocked waters they will always be easier to come to a conclusion on bait, as the amout of competition is incredible......but the balance of a decent bait to maximise the growth potential of the stock is important as a Rose Hip type of bait wont do the long term effects anygood...BUT...as we all know, holiday anglers couldnt care a dam about that, all they care about is the price per kg....which is fair comment...but fish suffer from sh*t bait.

rosehip hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I think theres a simple reason....if said fishery's house bait is heavy fishmeal....and you give them a crap nutritional bait they will see it as out of the norn and investigate..they have to investigate with their mouths and they have no hands...

bit like having steak everyday...and then you seem a cream cake....happy days....but reverse that...eat cream cakes all the time and you get the shits and get i'll on it....

exactly........the fish have no choice but to sample and then decide if its any good to them.........for a week session in france the crapiest bait in the world will catch.......until they leave it knowing its sh*t but by that time you are leaving and have had a few......

I am not advocating taking sh*t bait though.......... :LMAO:

Expand on the above mate

I mean...........for a week session at a venue where there does'nt appear to be a favourite boille established then when a bait is crap.........the fish dont instantly figure this out ........so with a stock of say 400 fish it would take all 400 to figure out its tosh before not returning for anymore...........so for that week it would work but carry on putting it in and after a few wks they wont touch it.....

thats why baits like rosehips do well for short period's in small amounts..........

i know attractant levelsplay apart in the feeding but surely thats a longterm effect and not something that you would expect in a week session......

If fish will just eat any old bait, why not just take a 50/50 mix at £1 a kilo? And why bother with something "new" - why not just use the old one that you know works? The fish don't "know" it's a test bait (lets face it, it's been around for two years already) but how do you know it works on that lake? When Grange Red appeared a mate of mine went on it when we stayed on the origional...... his catches tailed right off. Drop the RR and his catches went back to normal..... so no bait is guaranteed to work, even if it's based on a "good" one.

It's one thing taking the risk with your holiday, another with someone elses......

Mainline haven't made a proper bait since activ8 - they have some of the best marketing, and some great attractors - hence why they have to change the bait every other years - but the main reason they catch fish is that so many people use it. they are no better than any other bait. And like I said, I use it so it's not as if I'm slagging them for the sake of it - it's just I think Grange and Activ8 are on another level to the others.

I would love to take a 50 / 50 dave but MY confidence in it would be zero........where as the new grange tingles the nose and installs confidence to think fish will eat it if put in the right place......

Same as the A bait i have........full of confidence when taking that..........to be honest nealry all the bait around is on the same bases etc with a tiny percentage being different, i know attractant levelsplay apart in the feeding but surely thats a longterm effect and not something that you would expect in a week session........i mean look how well rosehips do...........

Your right about the marketing side of things...........and the fact so much mailine gear goes in lakes makes it almost instantly acceptable.......the original grange stands head and shoulders above other baits IMO but thats what was out in the early 90's.............not the version they have now which is lacking 1 major ingriedent...... :LMAO:

i've caught more fish on that than any other of their baits, as i said...the rest are basically all the same in a different bag...

take poachers RnR and Frenzy....different label....different opinions on whats a better bait from anglers.....virtually the same base!

just shows that what works for some, on some waters, don't work everywhere.....
