nice write up joss, it really is one of my favourite swims at les quis, ive fished it many times. a swim where you have to be on the ball because of the tree line snags, but the fish really do get in there.

Decent thread from last year fella.....................................lucky you posted this on another forum :thumbsup_anim:

Cant see the point in taking your time to write a detailed report, cross referencing the photos of the swim, etc for the benefit of all, if after 4 months they all get deleted :thumb:

After picking number 7 and arriving at the lake, i wanted the Elf, but as it panned out, i opted for the point of the Old, opposite my old mate Cashy in NTC. Pat was in jurrassic and clive in Middles, with my Bro on the Beach and Guy in NCC. So all the lads were happily on the Old.

Nice right up Joss...

I didnt have my fishin head on all week reall, as i've other things on my mind big style, and in no way did that rely effect the whole week.

Tufty kindly dropped me a message informing me where he had his fish from the previous week, and i tried the spots for the first couple of days.

Left rod 11 oclock 40 yrds

Middle rod on the tall tree

Right rod in the gap 20 yrds to the right of the above.

Armed with 20kgs of RnR and 20Kgs of a new birdfood i'm testing, with pear, banna and raspberry flavouring, coluored bright yellow.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c102/Jossf/pointold.jpg

Saturday:
No one really fishes to their best abillities on the first day, but i managed 3 runs, and losing all of them...2 in the snags to my left and one in open water. never mind, get my head down and start fishing tomoz.

Sunday:
Nothing through the night, thank god, i realy needed a kip. Just before breakfast, i had a hook pull on ,my middle rod, then a 25 mirror from the right rod, then lost another 20mins later. Clive in the middles had 4 small fish during the night.

Monday:
Nothing all day, the whole complex is dead, only 1 forty out of the whole complex so far. After tea the rain came in and the right rod was off resulting in a 19lb'er, 9.30 pm middle was off...lost fish.......no i know i have things on my mind, and i'd rather be at home, but losing 6 fish is starting to poss me off....time to pull me socks up.

Tuesday:
Nothing out of the lakes over night, decent nights kip, so here we go, time to ring a few changes. I started to walk round jurrassic way to brekkie, smashed loads of the new bait up, mixed with plenty of dip and attractors, took my crook round and started to poke around in the margins, trying to find out where the bank was under cut. Put approx a kg of the baits right in front of the under cut bank, had brakkie, walked back, cast over, walked back round and dropped the lead in so close to the bank you wouldnt think it was possible for the fish to feed there, it even supprised me to be honest. That afternoon i had 31.12, 30.2 and a 26 and lost one. So i've found a little spot they felt safe to pick up a bait on.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c102/Jossf/31.8.jpg

Wednesday:
Nothing through the night again, but i was up a 5am, baitiing up in the same way. soon as i got back round right rod was off 22lb mirror, and as it was landed the middle rod was off, 21lb mirror. Dinner time another 30.8 mirror. I spent the rest of the day crushing baits.

Thursday:
up at 6.15, baited up, again only 1 kg of crushed baits. came back, put kettle on and watched the mist rise over the lake, sipped my tea, as the sun rose, with one eye on my locked up rods. Middle rod bleeped and pulled round. 21lb mirror hanging on the end, it was a lovely scaley fish, well chuffed with it. Back round, a little more bait, only a couple of hands full, and at 8.25am, same thing...but without my cuppa tea. 20mins later 47.12...now the slags back on form.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c102/Jossf/47.10.jpg

went to brekkie, and by dinner time, me, Pat, Clive and Andy got the Red wine out.....after dinner...i went on tour...round to Colin and the boys on the point of the Long. I showed Chris on the Beach a few tricks, he had 3 runs in an hour...so i moved on....to the lodge, sat with the Total Carp boys for a hr or so...top bunch of lads, did feel sorry for them a tad as the bay wasnt up to much in the way of bigger fish, so it will be interesting reading me thinks.

Friday:
Didn't cast out that night, theres a supprised :thumbsup_anim: ...i felt fine though..got up at 6.30am....cuppa tea and starde the walk round and baiting up thing again. Pat kindly bought my brekkie round, as i missed the nights fishing and wanted to sit by my rods. Nothing all day, but after dinner that evening right rod was off 23.8 common, as i was playing that in the middle rod was off, 19lb mirror...need beer...ran round to the hut, and guy said, on my return...Guy said..."i'm sure you've had another run mate"..legged it round Andy was just holding the fish on the line..i took over..20.8 common....a mad half an hr or what....11.30..my first run in open water resulted in a 27.10 mirror...

during the night, the fish..for the first time all wk, were banging about the lake seriously...typical...just typical....i had 2 more runs durin the night...both mid 20's.......

all in all,....i was glad to pack up and go home....

in reflection...i was also very happy to have been testing the birdfood gear...i'm 99.9% sur ethose carp get fed up with balls out fishmeal baits later on in the yr

I thought drawing 8 was a bit of a result  That week the Old was the most productive lake on the complex. Still had a great week.

Interesting theory, but how would you do that if someone was plotted in the Point swim ?

Thats the question Ive thought about previously. Did`nt a guy drop into the Table who drew early not so long ago and did`nt do that well after spotting fish holed up.

That guy pulled 1 and struggled , but then i pulled 16 and had table and had 38 fish so it really depends on how you fish it etc !!!

I would have to hide behind a bush then chuck me freeline in and then once hooked jump in and tell him look what i found with my nice prize catch in my net!!! :thumbsup_anim:

I would probably drop a couple of handfuls of broken boilie in , probably plot up for few hours and see how it goes , dont know whether i would set up camp there !!! Infact id get me Fox aqua twig stalking rod out and drop and freelined bit of maize or something snatch a 50 and then f*** off to my chosen swim :thumbsup_anim:

If you saw or witnessed a rake of lumps holed up in the Points far margin cover on the walk round, what would you do ?

Bypass it and choose elsewhere ?

or

Take ya chance of known fish you`ve seen & plot up ?

a dilemma we could all be faced with. Wot do ya reckon then ?

Here's my small  write up on Point. I Pulled 8 in the draw and after a brief walk round the lakes i decided to set up camp here for the week. Wasn’t sure what to expect but just decided to go with the main features in the swim first off. Down the right side of the swim there is a split tree and a bay just before it. First rod went in there. It’s a bit of a chuck (70-80 yards) also down the right hand side there's another tree which is a bit snaggy but also a good carp hiding spot. Again 50 yards down. And lastly there's a tree come bush which is about 20 yards on the right again which you need to get tight to. Its a bit of a Hollywood casts if you get it right. 3rd Rod went slightly left (near Middles swim) at around 40-50 yards. I had 2x30's from this rod and countless doubles, lost a couple of good fish from here as well. There's a gully that runs most of the way down the lake from Point to Beach. Its about 40 yards out and is about 13 foot deep. Get a bait in there and plenty of free offerings. It will produce for sure. I had a 52lb from the split tree spot. A bit temperamental that spot. I baited up when walking round to the lodge. Then cast to it with single hook bait. Result a stonking PB of 52lbs. I lost 2 fish from this spot on the first nite. Then the second nite didn’t get a bleep. Left it for 24 hours but still kept baiting up and the result was the 52lbr so don’t give up on it. In all had a great week caught 11 fish and lost about as many as i caught. This on a difficult week in June. Would fish there again if given the chance to.

Thats quite deep there! all I did was poke the bottom with the landing net handle to see If I could go in, beoore catching anything, decided against it though the back leads I used that year seemed to disappear over that bit of hard mud just under the water. Good bit of gravel though.

Not bad thanks mate. Heart's back in working order and can deral with the rigours of a screaming bite alarm (Not that I had many of them!)

It may have been between 2 & 3ft, but it was a definate ledge right at the base of the tall tree, which is the dividing point between Point and N.T.Coypu.

With regard to the Middles, the gravel bar to the left is very clean, but having had to jump in to stop an open water caught fish, from kiting under the trees, I think they would be into the trees before you could stop them.

Paul fished in there in 2004 ( when Guy fished middle hanger ) thought it was a bit deeper along that edge, was the 2 foot under the big tree which splits NTC from point.

Never liked Middles besides the fishing two many stumps to fall over at night. there is gravel to the left toward the baillfs, I had nothing off it as well. Watched the swim this year whilst sitting with Steve all the fish seemed to be in the margin between Middle and Beach not an easy spot to get bait though.
