For the winter campaigner, I find any gas cannisters freeze up in cold weather.

Use a Swedish Mountaineering Trangia (Meth Stove). Kit comes with everything, kettle, saucepans, frying pan, burner, priced at £60 or thereabouts.

Meths approx £5/litre which easily lasts forever :D

Burner in holder easily doubles up as a bivvy heater :D

I use the 500's and yes they last me ages, every Sunday I do probably 6 cups of tea ( small kettle ) and two lots of Bacon Butties they just seem to last, really don't understand anybody using more than a couple a year,

Does he use it to heat his bivvy :D

Jad's last for ever as he uses everyone else's stoves :P

Two canisters a year, are you sure :D
My mate's canisters sometimes only last him weekend.
We do drink far too much tea though :D

have a coleman double petrol for long weekends but I have had my coleman gas for a long long time and it is still as good as new., When you think I use proably two canisters a year and I am out almost every weekend not sure it would be worth buying a gagde to save a bit on the containers, if you look around you can buy them very cheap in bulk anyway.

Yep, thinking of getting one of those stoves and the converter. The gas stove I've got at the moment is pants so I keep using my Coleman Sportster duel fuel one.

I'm going to stick with my Colemans. It's so old that it has it's own character.
If I switched to gas it would feel like I'd be turning my back on an old friend :D

Got this from another forum but I thought it was such a good idea I'd post it on here.

If you got a primus stove or Alpine ?

then get one of theses Karrimor Gosystem - Power Pak (gas cylinder adaptor)
Clever plastic adaptor that allows you to use Bluet type pierceable gas cylinders on screw-threaded gas stoves THEN !!!!!! off to B&Q and buy there butane propane gas cylinders WAIT FOR IT FOR 98pence each

Link

At a tenner inc free p&p, this could save a fortune over time. Incidentally, the gas cannisters at B&Q that are referred to are the ones plumbers use. Cost = 98p, Same ones aimed at anglers or in camping stores = £3.99 :D
